Obesity is a growing problem (if you'll pardon the pun!), which explains
why the diet industry is so huge. There is, however, a sad fact:- for
the overwhelming majority of people, diets simply DON'T WORK.
Diets, as they are usually presented, have two fundamental weaknesses.
Firstly, they are treated as a project, i.e. they have a beginning, a
middle and an end: you start your diet, you eat what, for the most part,
are unhealthy meals and when you've reached your target weight, you
stop. What happens afterwards? You go back to your regular food and put
back on all the weight you've lost, if not more. This is a
simplification, obviously, but I think it's not far from the truth for
many people.
Secondly, diets don't address what is the most important aspect:- your
emotional relationship with food. Slim people think about food when
they're hungry - it's (enjoyable) fuel. Overweight people, I think it's
fair to say, think about food much more often and it is used as a
reward, stress relief, boredom relief, etc.
My weight loss programme builds on one devised and developed by
ISIS Training over the last few years and it's called 'Think Slim, Be
Slim'.
I will not tell you what you can and cannot eat - I don't advocate
any sort of diet. Instead, I will encourage you to find your own
'healthy eating plan', which you then stick to from then on.
This is the best way to maintain your target weight permanently.
I use hypnotherapy and NLP to prepare your mind, then change your
mind. This helps change your relationship with food and is actually the most
important part of the process.
