As we all know,
smoking can cause changes in you. You cough a lot, your breath smells
(your clothes smell too), your fingers can get stained, etc.
Then there are the medical conditions, of course, like emphysema and an
increased risk of lung cancer.
It's well known that smoking can
raise your chances of getting Coronary Artery Disease. This is when
there is a fatty build up in the heart's blood vessels which narrows and
can even block them. Very serious.
Perhaps less well known is that this can also occur in the arteries in
other parts of your body. When it occurs in your arms or legs it's
called Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD). PAD is the main cause of limb
(usually leg) amputations in this country. Smoking can raise your
chances of getting PAD by three to five times*. A significant proportion
of leg amputations have a root cause in smoking.
Just one more reason to stop smoking.
The smoking cessation programme is called 'Stop Smoking For Life'. It
addresses the fact that the physical dependency on nicotine constitutes
only a small part of the smoking habit. Most of it is just that - a
habit, and a habit you CAN break. The physical dependency on nicotine
can be got rid of in two to three days (even less if you drink plenty of
water). What's left is the habitual behaviour and hypnotherapy and NLP
are just the techniques you need to help you change that behaviour and
hence kick the smoking habit.
